Posted: 08/07/03 - 08:53 Post subject: Just finished up writing our Wills
I spoke with our family attorney yesterday who will be typing up the final copy of our wills that Robin and I just finished.
We mainly did it to make sure that Abby is taken care of in the event of both of our untimely deaths.
It is a nice relief knowing that the kids will be taken care of if we both happen to die.
As grave as it may seem it has to be done.
I am a meticulous planner
Anyone else have their will done?

So what do I get?
I do, and I have a living will. The Paramedic knows that there is an "in case of death" folder that someone will tell him the location of upon my death. That's my insurance that he will not bump me off to see what's in it. I have things that I want to go to specific people, and this ensures that will happen. I have seen up close and personal what happens when things aren't clearly divided, and how much destruction that can cause a family.

BTDT ...2x. Same reasons, to be sure the kids would be okay and together. And we're near minimalists, so all da "stuff" would just be sold.

Don't forget to assign contingent beneficiaries for all of your 401K, pensions etc - if you list your wife as sole beneficiary with no contingent and if you both die together - in effect, your non-probate assets (the 401K etc) will get tied up in the probate of her estate - (and vice versa)

already done Tim. A big fat trust fund will be established for the offspring with an administrator already set up.

We've been doing this since we were newlyweds.
Don't forget to make plans for who gets your pets. If you don't, and no one speaks up upon your death/s they go to the pound. At the very least, name breed rescue.
Also: since my manner of burial is such a matter of controversy in my husband's family, I have specifically listed my burial/cremation requests in my will. (I'm being accused of not being Christian enough in my choices. )
