So here's my report:
I knew there was supposed to be a snowstorm this morning, but woke up pleasantly surprised to see no snow on the ground. I had packed up all my race stuff last night, so all I had to do this morning was get dressed & walk out the door. As I left my apartment, a light dusting of snow started to cover the ground--no problem. I boarded the subway, and when I stepped off (an hour-and-a-half later), there was already a few inches of snow on the ground & there was no sign of it slowing down any time soon. It was really windy too. The subway stop was a few blocks from the start, and by the time I got to the start, I had already stepped in two puddles . Again, I managed to get my feet wet & frozen, but I was told that this is not a legitimate reason to wuss out of a race . So this one's for you, Elkid!
Mile 1 (7:58 ): this was fast, since I started late (they turned it into a fun run so there was no official start, and no chip time), and there was hardly anyone around me when I started. Little voice inside my head: This sucks. Why are you doing this? Ice pellets are flying into your face making little cuts on the surface of your skin. What are you doing? Laurie's voice: Don't wuss out!
Mile 2 (9:11): I ran into some congestion here. A lot of people decided to walk, since visibility was low, and the road was really icy. There was no time before the race to clear the road, so no one had salted or plowed yet.
Miles 3-5 (avg. 8:37): started getting into a rhythm, still running slow & taking little steps. The wind was really picking up, and I just wanted to get through it all with some skin on my face. Laurie's voice: I LOVE running in the snow!!! Winter is my favorite season. Don't wuss out!!!
Mile 6 (8:32): Felt a lot faster than it was. All the water I drank at home along with the coffee was really starting to take effect, and I was partly running, partly doing the pee dance for a mile through the snow. I felt like I was running fast, though.
Last .2 (1:24): I kicked a little out of sheer desperation. It was a real balancing act here: run fast, but don't jostle the bladder.
Finish line. Bathroom. Krispy Kreme. No hot chocolate for me. As much as I hate cold weather, I gotta say: this wasn't half bad.

wow that weather sounds nasty.
very impressive finish though considering the ice and sleet in your face; i'd call it a great time!
Elkid will be very proud.

Nice running in lousy conditions. I was entered, but saw (via radar) that the snow was coming in so I didn't go into the City for it. I ran up in Westchester instead, and from conditions here know that the course must have been tricky, particularly the hills (up and down) on the north end.

w00t! SO JEALOUS! Funny, I started my run about the same time as the race and though, "Paulee better not wuss out of this race - these are great conditions!" Good job, and fast times considering you must've been slip sliding away.
