The HR wonks at my day job are way over the top with clever interview questions, psychographic tests, and body language. By contrast, I brought on three associates for my other job whom I never personally met! Wink

Though I am inclined to agree with Joe, there are many people out there who have never really been taught (or bothered to learn - not trying to place blame here) proper interviewing skills. I'd be inclined to give the second one a chance once I had clearly detailed the dress code and she'd agreed to it.

I don't know..... I learned in High School how to present myself in an interview. Also I don't know what kind of degree you need for that kind of job but most schools make you take some kind of course or lecture for job getting skills. Surely she should have known better.

well, I am not an HR specialist, so I clearly don't know. What I do know is that my wife used to do hiring for a large company and she would come home daily with stories about things people would do at interviews that they should have been taught or known. I also have friends in HR that tell me similar stories.

I also work in computers. I could give many stories about users that I support (many of them with PhD's) who do things (or don't do) to their computers that they should know better about.

Just because you feel they should know basic interviewing skills, doesn't mean they do know. The fact of the matter is that there are many out there either without those skills or (I'll definitely give you this one) that don't care. There are many out there drawing unemployment that are forced to look for work who really don't want a job until that free money runs out.

As it turned out, my decision made itself.

I called both back on Friday and I had a pleasant coversation with number 1.

Number 2's SO answered the phone, and when my "May I speak with?" was answered with "Who the hell is this?", I knew it was going to be entertaining.

Number 2 came to the phone, actually apologized for her SO's rudeness, and asked if she could call me back. She never did.

Number 1 starts on Wednesday.

Thanks for everyone's input. It was a big help.
