The mystique of the marathon. No wonder it's a lifetime pursuit, there's just so many variables, getting it all right for a peak performance is a tall order. Like it's been said, you'll figure out in retrospect where the crack was. We all do the same thing and then decide to take it on again. I'll be interested to hear what you figured caused the wheels to fall off. I too thought you'd cruise a golden one too. At a minimum, staying ahead of last year is a biggie victory in itself. Give yourself some well earned recovery and get the head ready to peak in '04!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Know that I have had 24 hours to ponder and ruminate on my race I realize that I ran the best race I could given the conditions.
If you look back or remember what my other race reports were like you will remember that the cooler the weather the better I race. When the temperature and the humidity go up so do my times. It must be the fact that I look like a gorilla from the front and I weight 180 pounds! With 60 something weather in December and high humidity I was going to have a hard time.
Next year I will just have to work that much harder to get closer to the time I need to qualify for boston (3:15) I was aiming for approximately a 3:35 this year and I thought I could concentrate on getting down to a 3:15 next year.
Oh well, Now I will have an easy week of running. I am entered in a race in NJ that I am running for the FUN of it with no expectation on a good time since it is supposedly very hilly. The following week I will work back into my running routine and try and another race on December 28. Right after I get back to Sunny Florida I will plan out my race calendar for 2004 and begin my training. The Jacksonville Marathon will be on that race calendar again. I will train harder and smarter this year and conquer(sp??) it next December!
