Sorry it isn't ready yet.
I have to pull the splits from my watch etc. Maybe later tonight.

Here is my race report from the Jacksonville Marathon on Sunday December 14, 2003.
Well first off the weather stunk. At the start it was about 60 degrees and raining. Right before the gun went off the rain stopped. So off we went. I started off making a concerted effort to not get caught up in the initial race surge. By mile 3 I was in a groove and feeling good. I was dialed into my goal pace of 8:15 per mile. Since the guys I run with all had different goals we didn’t run together this time. I just ran along checking out the scenery and worked at maintaining my pace.
By about mile 9 I had caught one of my training buddies. Somehow he got injured last week so he was just trying to finish the whole thing. I ran with him for about a mile or so and then I moved on. I hit the halfway point in approximately 1:48.42. A little slower than what I really wanted but I was feeling really good and I thought I could pick it up in the second half. I continued to motor along. I did notice that my splits were dropping significantly on the miles where the water was since I was walking through it to make sure I had enough water. To make up for it I tried to run a little harder. This got me up through about mile 19.
I go through mile 20 and then I slammed into the wall. I told myself that I only had a 10K to go but my legs said Nope! I don’t know what happened but my legs started to feel dead even though my breathing was feeling good. Uh Oh!
I struggled up to mile 21 and I had given up looking at my splits. I was cursing myself for putting myself through this and wondering if I really wanted to do it again. I continued to shuffle along trying to hang with people that were near me but to no avail. All I could do was try and zone out to ignore the pains in my hamstrings, my knees and my left ankle. Finally I hit mile 23.
Only a 5K to go. I realized I was running like garbage and my dream of a 3:35:00 was pretty much gone. All I could do now was shoot for beating last years time. I slowly worked my way up the final miles. I made the turn into this neighborhood and as I ran in front of a mom and her 2 kids who were out cheering us on saying only about 1 mile to go I felt like was going to hurl (If you puke on the concrete does that mean I am praying to the Concrete God instead of the Porcelain God?)
At about mile 25 one of my other running buddies came up next to me and tried to help to pull me along. I hung with him for few minutes but all I could do was watch him run away from me. I entered the track which for the final 200 meters and another of the guys that we run with was cheering me on. All I could do was grimace at him. I had nothing left. I felt about 5 people out kick me in the final 50 meters. I crossed the line and saw that I had at least beat last years time.
Here are the results:
10K Split HM Split 20 M Split Gun Time Chip Time
Eric Norris 52:27 1:49:18 2:47:12 3:46:03 3:45:25

Sorry it was so long. I was in a typing mood to help sort out my emotions on this run. My time last year was a 3:48 so I beat it by 3 minutes but I really thought I would do better since my Half marathon at Thanksgiving was so good as was my 30K race a couple of weeks ago.
Have a great night everyone.

Boiler, a 3h.45m. is a fair sort of effort. Don't be too dissapointed, a personal best is a personal best.
You have done the right thing in putting down your splits and thoughts on your race. Now over the next few weeks do some analysis of your race and your training.
Will you run your race differently next time?
What, if any modifications will you make to your training?
Now go away and lick your wounds and take at least a month off racing and when you come back, come back in slowly and don't put any expectations in times; you should be starting a slow build up towards a goal race in the future.
Once again a 3 minute PB. is not to be sneezed at.

Dude, that sucks. I know how disappointed you are. A PR is a PR, though. Strong through 21 - pretty even. Now just get back into training for a marathon up north next fall .
