I have a cold.
I'm pretty sure I'll still have it on Sunday for my 1/2 marathon. I've never raced when sick before but I think I should be OK to take some sort of anti-histamine (like Contac-C or Sudafed) the morning of the race.
Anybody have know of any reasons not to drug myself before the race?

Try to avoid sudafed. It contains a stimulant that will raise your HR. Not good for racing. I learned the hard way.
I do use anti-histimines with no problem. Otherwise I can have bad allergy attacks passing fields and people mowing there lawn.

I would agree with Bob on avoiding Sudafed, makes everything jittery for me. I don't know that I would take anything the morning of the race. But that's just me.

i don't think i'd take anything before the race, i'd try to keep really hydrated the days before, maybe use a decongestant now but i'd hesitate to take anything before the half. drink lots of fluids now though. hope you feel better, i know you've been training for this weekend.

Thanks. This race was intended as a set-up to see where I'm at for the marathon I'm doing in the fall - so I won't be devastated if I have to run it while under the weather. Still kinda sucks though.
I'll see how bad it is Sunday morning (today it just keeps getting worse ). Hopefully I can get away with just using some Otrivin.

If its a cold and not an allergic reaction to something may not even have an effect on the way you feel except to make you drowsy and/or whatever other side effects.
I'm with RR, lots of fluids and rest, and good luck!
