Ever think about forums like this and who all knows your name, your home town, where you live? Alot of you are internet gurus and could surf up sites with personal info I'm sure. I'm not, nor do I protray one on tv. Most of us run races with results posted online giving your name, age, and hometown. With those kind of details, do you lay awake at night wondering? I get the feeling some of us do.

I'm going to have say I am for keeping personal info as private as you can.

There are bad people out there. The people you really have to worry about are lurkers that may not ever make a single post. They just sit there and read and acquire information.

At this site, they could easily obtain some people's full names, spouse's name, children's ages and names, work locations, kid's school locations, etc.

I don't think it is always a bad thing to share info. I do worry that some people are not aware of the risks they are taking.

I have a friend that knows lots of stuff about the internet. He's an expert about creepy people, too. He has made me paranoid, but that's a very good thing.

You shouldn't give away personal details, even here. Riff Raff feels like a very cozy little spot, and we know most everyone here is a good person.

But, it's still the internet. Anyone can surf on in here.

You have to be careful.

You just have to make sure when you do choose to give out information that it's not to anyone who is nuts.

I have never worried about my name and city being posted in race results. When I go on forums the most I give out is my city so I am not to worried.

As a sidebar; at a race this spring one of my co-workers entered and used the name Buck Naked. He never thought he would win his age group, but since it was a small race he did!
The race director chuckled as he read the name and then finallycalled it out.
