since I began running. I had never run prior to last August. It has been the best year of my life in ways I've told some of you and the worst in ways I haven't told anyone. Running brought to me such unusual sensations: I knew I had drive, but running confirmed it. I knew I had the will to succeed, but running proved it. I never knew commitment until I began running. I knew frustration but running exacerbated it. I knew joy but running maximized it. I knew pride but running actually gave me a reason to be proud.
I have never felt more alive or more purposeful than I have this year. Running has been a very spiritual experience for me. It has brought me closer to myself and allowed me to realize I'm not such a bad person. When I can run, all is right with my world. When I can't, nothing is. Every step I run I am thankful for. I know every step is a blessing--because up until last year, I never knew I could. I didn't even know how. And I know others who wish they could, but can't. I am blessed to be able to lace up and run. I hope I never waste or throw that chance away again. (I'm going to die healthy if it kills me!)
I don't run a lot. Or very fast. I probably never will see a real winner's circle. Most important, though, I am proud of my accomplishments--as small as they are to most of the running world, they are huge in my world. I can honestly say, I am a runner. It defines me--it colors my decisions. Every run that I run ends in a winner's circle in my mind.
Thank you for the part that you guys have played in my first year as a runner. I couldn't have done it without your support and the Riff Raff Hangout.

Not taking anything away from those who have actually seen the inside of the winners circle...but it sounds like you've found something more valuable.
