job to appreciate a nice one, that with time allows you to fulfill your personal goals. I am going to feel badly when we leave in July.

These people are so nice! And it is so relaxed, and no black mold growing off of the walls and bosses throwing drug induced fits. I feel so calm. I no longer need Xanax to deal with work. I felt good today. I helped them figure out a computer issue and they were so appreciative. I didn't know how to respond for about 30 seconds, until it finally hit me to say "Thank you."

If I did that in my last job, my old boss would have thrown files at me and said, "Here, take care of this. And quit limping around, there's nothing wrong with your feet anymore. Just suck it up and deal with it. and, remember ( I kid you not) Hubert likes all the girls to wear their hair down. (OK, I was the frickin controller, not a reservationist if they were going for appearance so I did not spend much time in the damn front office anyway or greet guests and I am no longer a "girl", I think that died with slavery, oh wait....)

My hair was up because I was tired and had no time to get a cut to get rid of the damn split ends. How does that impact my performance?

Have you ever had a job so bad that you can't appreciate a good one? You're cringing that someone is going to come in and scream and dump stuff on your desk and then throw it at you literally so that when people are honestly nice and complimentary, you don't know how to respond? Please tell me I am not the only one, or I am going to think I am butt-stupid for putting up with that for so long. I actually developed high blood pressure for a few months. It's gone. I went to the dr today on my luncg, and had been off of the meds for two weeks. I was getting scared. It was all stress.

I still haven't gotten my W-2's from those resorts. If they don't respond to my repeated voicemails (I am leaving Larry out of this; he works for the restaurant, NOT the resort I am calling the IRS on them. That should stir up a few things. They are do by January 31, as I recall. Or must be mailed by that day. I'd have to read the tax publication, and I don't feel like it.

Oh! One of the receptionists brings around Cuban coffe (little shots of sweet, thick, black coffee, like espresso) every day at about 3:00 pm. How nice is that!!!???

I will feel badly when I leave. They're already talking about what they want me to start on next year.
So, what was your worst job, ever?

Yep...the job I left to do what I'm doing now was like that. For the first three years I was in that department I was happy as a pig in poo. Then they took me out of my group, away from my beloved boss and stuck me with a disorganized, scatterbrained drama queen who had absolutely NO CLUE what she was doing, outside of the science itself. I hated every second and literally wished I could drive off the side of the road and into a tree to prevent having to pull into that parking lot one more day.

I love what I do now....NO regrets. I'm glad you found that peace too.

dance cheers

I'm in about the same boat with my present job. And the really crappy part is this: there was a time when I really, really liked working here.

Now, I'm tossing and turning on Sunday nights because I know what's in store on Monday:

More signs being returned for defective workmanship, or even better, spelling errors. More stuff not done when it was promised to the customer. More people who called in with questions that never got answered. There'll be a pile of scrawled Post-its that I'll need to decipher, and no matter how much money comes in the mail, "it won't be enough to make payroll/pay the bills/etc." (this announcement being made loud enough for everyone to hear).

Come 11:30, the boss and our production manager (his cousin) will vanish for lunch, no matter how busy we are or whether there's anyone else to back me up on the counter and/or phones. The boss's sister (whose hours are supposedly 10:00-3:00) will call at 11:30 to say she's running late, show up at 12:15, then go to lunch from 12:15-1:00, thereby putting in a grueling two hours of non-work.

Meanwhile, the boss just bought a new truck, and his wife drives a new silver X5... burning mad

Raises? Don't even ask.

Once upon a time, I had a boss who wasn't the greatest at the business side, but every couple of months we'd have lunch outside the shop and he'd ask how I was doing, what my goals were, etc. Now, I have a boss who considers us all the Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight. I hope that my customers will be treated right once I'm gone, but I have a feeling most of them'll be gone within a matter of months.

Congrats on making it out of job hell. It's the one goal above all else I've set for myself in 2006.

I understand. The job I just left has left me pretty down about myself--wondering if anyone would ever want to hire me. Even though I quit and left on my own, my boss made it seem like without her I was nothing.

She wore me down pretty well. The boss of the truck drivers took me aside one day and told me to never call my old boss for a referral, instead to give him a call and he would give them the truth. That made me feel really good.

Congrats on seeing the good side of the rainbow. One day I hope to have the courage to try again. Neutral

Who wouldn't want you? Someone with some insight obviously noticed your work ethics, standards, and quality and offered you a reference. That should say a lot.

Larry's co-manager offered me a reference and told me to have preospects call him instead of the self-proclaimed QUeen of Islamorada. Since I did technically manage and review the restaurant financials along with the resort, it's on board, and he gave me a great reference.

Whne someone seeks you out and offers you a reference, that means you did well, no matter how crappy your immediate supervisor made you feel. Someone noticed something good. Think about that, and don't be discouraged. Take some time for yourself to get over the stress, and then look for something you really want. I get the impression you want something that really suits you, not "just a job". You'll get it. Good Luck when you start looking again. Taking the time off helps you collect your thoughts and de-stress, and focus.

Thanks, and thanks to everyone for the good thoughts and support while I was in the 7th circle of hell. Going to work is relaxing and calming now, and quiet. I feel like I should be weaving baskets or making ashtrays from clay.

I can't post from this job, however. No personal internet usage. It's OK, as there are much worse things.
