I am hearing about stretching a lot. There are people who say that it is essential for any athlete and that you cannot achieve good results without it. On the other hand some others say that it may be counter productive for bikers. Which one is true? Thanks for your help.

Neither one of them. Stretching your muscles can play some role in preparation for the muscular effort. Like everything else, you don’t have to overdo it. It is definitely not essential for achieving top results. There are other things that are much more important. On the other hand there is no proof whatsoever that stretching is counter productive for bikers. Conclusion: you may include some stretching in your warm up and cool down phase of the workout, but don’t expect any miracles from it. And do not overdo it.

Stretching is good after you warm up, it's good for your muscles to prevent injuries. But it's not essential.

Stretching is good way of preparation. That's all. But, stretching can cause injuries or cramps as well, if you doing it intensively.
