I learned to read by the time I was three, and I'll read every chance I get. 99+% non-fiction; high school lit classes wrecked fiction for me.

Dude, I read all the time....Well, currently textbooks but I don't think reading for fun is something for the older crowd...I see lots of young people (including me) reading for pleasure.Nothing uncool about that.. Confused

School was hell for me, and it was a crap school anyway. Most of my education came from reading everything I could get my hands on. Reading takes you anywhere you want to go, and enriches you in ways traditional schooling and lectures and essay writing can never do.

I have my girls read read read. Pretty much everything. They have amazing vocabularies for 6 & 8 year-olds.

I don't know how I would have gotten through most of life without books. The day that "books" on CD or tape are considered an adequate substitute or reading a book is a sign of "getting old" is the day that the end of the fall of western civilization truly begins.

Unless i have a 5 + hour drive ahead of me, i don't see any purpose to audiobooks. If i don't have the time to read, i make the time before i go to bed.

Reading is still my #1 thing to do when I have nothing to do. But I don't read nearly as much as I used to, only because Olivia takes up my time during the days (all seven of them). I used to waste my weekends away doing nothing but reading.

I try to get through at least one or two books a month. I pretty much only read military history. The last two years have been nothing but WWII books and I have a queue that will take at least 2 more years to get through!

I lit the pilot of the fireplace today, so a book in front of the fireplace is very doable and sounds nice! Thanks for your post!

Wait--- Fireplaces got wings ? Why do you need a pilot for it ? Does it manouver ?

PS I do try to read books that strike my fancy, usually non-fiction more on the historical side of things.

I read every night before I go to sleep. I usually have three to four books going at the same time. I like it all -- everything from scifi to the "must-read classics".

I'd rather read than go out. I'd rather read than watch TV. And I'd rather read than see a movie.

Great book... but it's so tough to get through it. I've been reading the Fountainhead on and off (mostly off) for about 2 years now.

I found that the first few dozen pages were the hardest to get through, but now it's hard to put down. I'd like to read The Fountainhead eventually, but for now I've got The Odyssey to finish, and I also want to read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Maybe then I can buy TF and start on it.

I do think too that I will have to read Atlas Shrugged a second time. I know I'm missing stuff reading at this pace, so maybe the 2nd reading I can slow down a bit and savor it even more. Right now I feel like I'm on a mission just to finish it. Smile
