Why does it seem that some of you are hell-bent on making this forum into a CH annex? Can't you satisfy your burning desire to fight over there? What is wrong with just having a place to be silly and relax? There's plenty of crap in the world to get pissed off about if you look hard enough elsewhere, isn't there?

In a perfect world, folks wouldn't mention CH or 'the other place' over here at all...

We can't mold this forum into anything...just let it mold itself, genie.

EDIT: let's not go down this road again...

Wait, now I'm getting a little confused. I don't think this site has to be about nothing but silliness, b/c if that's all it's about, it's a waste of my time. (Plenty of times, people want things other than silliness, like how do I get this or listen to my sad tale or oops I really f*cked up last night type things. Those things are important. So I don't buy that it's all about yuks.)

But I don't want people to be obnoxious or intolerant or hurtful. Can't I have both?

But sometimes being obnoxious can be construed as being hurtful even if it was in no way the intention of the person posting said comment.

OK, that's true, I was generalizing....I do think the requests for support, advice, hey come celebrate this great thing that happened to me type stuff are important, I didn't mean it was all about hee hee hee....but what I meant was, there is a place that we are all very familiar with that you can go to exercise your desire to discuss controversial issues, take out PMS on or just get into a good old fashioned brawl because you feel like kicking ass. We're all welcome there so I don't see why we have to be like that here. That's what I meant.

Next Joel will be bringing his dang quilting topics over from THAT OTHER PLACE and THEN where will the neighborhood go? Wink

Intention is a key word here, cappy.

That's why it's important to consider your words before you hit submit. We can't read tone.

What bothers me is that someone can say "gays are perverts" and not be immediately censored but someone else can say "Pro choice rules" and boom end of thread. If you're going to have the ability to lock, I think it needs to be applied consistently and I haven't seen thus far that it has.

Having said that, I don't think it's fair that this all ends up in PH's lap to sort out. He's the RF guy, not an ethicist, and I'm sure he's got lots else to do.

Which is my point exactly about people who glory in bringing up this crap to begin with. Any of it. Not everything has to be about debating and intellectualizing things to death. I am the first one to stand in favor of academia and education, but in a place where I go to relax and have fun, I personally really don't want to be bothered with it.

With apologies to CB, this is just an analogy....sometimes it's nice to just sit back and watch Barney once in a while....you know? Wink

I'm not hell bent on anything and I'm looking for things to get pissed off about, genie. I just wanted to know what was and was not okay so I don't offend you or anyone else.

I'm not singling out anyone in particular which is why I posted the way I did, so if you're feeling like this applies to you, that's on you, not me.

But I don't think Bret, or anyone for that matter, meant for it to turn into anything like this. That's the whole thing, that sometimes stuff just turns big. I sent out an article on Wal-mart b/c we'd had a discussion on it a while back and it got a five page response. I didn't send it to create a huge thing.

If we're saying that we want to keep it all light and fluffy, we'll never be able to discuss anything other than pizza icons. And personally, that would bore me spitless.

Ground Rules:

No personal attacks - Do not attack other forum members. Personal attacks on other members are not permitted.

No posts intended soley for the purpose of inflaming others (trolling) - If you need to start a controversial thread, please do so in a respectful manner. No race, sexual orientation or religion bashing. If you disagree with someone else's opinion, that's fine. But please keep the tone in all threads civil.

Keep the swearing to a minimum - This is a family-type environment. Think along the lines of Ozzie and Harriet, not Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

No porn - This is self explanitory. Most of our members do some of their surfing while at work. Nudity/Porn is not appropriate for the work place. There are plenty of other places to find that sort of thing on the Internet, but this isn't one of those places.

No cross-posting - If you start a thread, do so only in one forum.

No spamming - Keep you pyramid schemes, commercial messages and solicitations to yourself.

Be nice to the newbies - Everyone started here with a post count of zero. A high post count does not make you a better person.

Let's keep this a fun and informative place to visit folks.

We haven't had posts like this on a consistent basis so it's awfully tough to try and be consistent, yo.
