Thumbs up or Thumbs Down, ??
More folks (larger percentage) voted yesterday in Iraq then in the last US Presidential Election. (The so called most important election in America in the last century with a riled-up electorate.)
Your thoughts....

I also think we should do the purple ink thing above when we vote here. Sure would clamp down on a lot of voter fraud. Wonder why we hadn't thought of that before.

Your thoughts.... | Take the right to vote away from here for a generation or two, and I'm sure people would be eager to go to the polls when the chance arises. But then, maybe we have too many creature comforts and could care less.
But props to the people of Iraq. I'm waiting for the final turn-out figures, but the media reports certain make it indicate they (the Iraqis) turned out.

No my first thought was I wish more Americans would exercise their right to VOTE........
The reason for putting big political win for Bush was simple fact that the leaders of the democratic party such as Ted Kennedy were predicting nothing but DOOM and GLOOM!

What about the continued doom and gloom for the Iraqi people? It will be some time before we see all the effects that this "democracy" will have on the Iraqi populace.

I'm thrilled that the elections went as well as they did. I can only imagine the pride Iraqis felt as they were able to cast their first true vote.
I would hold on saying it is a great political victory for Bush though. Lets see how it plays out, who is elected and if they are able to take power.

by international law standards (not that we should care about that since we do what we damm well please anyway -- geneva conventions anyone?) this election is clearly illegal. An election convened by an occupying force is not credible by any stretch of the imagination. Recall forced elections in Afghanistan by the Soviet empire and the rest of the 'free world's' response....

Find me that quote, please. I've heard Kennedy argue for pulling out of Iraq, but not for DOOM and GLOOM regarding Iraq's elections. It's a substantial difference so back it up, please.

Sounds like gloom and doom to me:

Does anyone think comparing the situation in Iraq to Vietnam is productive for any of the parties involved? Does Teddy really want Iraq to fail just to spite President Bush?

This article doesn't say that Kennedy thought the election or its turnout would be a mess. He's certainly not the only American to think we need to get out of there, if we had any business being there in the first place. I don't see the big deal. Bill?
