Israel won't think twice of retaliating. If Iran gets closer to making its threat, let's just say some airspace in the Middle East will be violated by the IAF on their way to bomb some Nuclear facilities in Iran.
This can only get worse before it gets better.

Israel probably will not be quite so quick to strike this time around as they did 25 years ago. The situation has changed. Back then there was no real Arab retaliation to worry about and the world wasn't caught up in the ME as they are today. I think Israel would have to be attacked or have very strong proof of an imminent attack before they could really strike Iran and not suffer severe consequences.
I don't support Iran or Israel having nuclear weapons but then again I didn't support India and Pakistan having them either, which the U.S. gave approval to in both cases. We would be on much stronger ground if we had put up as much opposition to them having nuclear weapons as we are Iran.

An attack by Israel on Iraq would result in massive Arab response...and the US as well as the UN would be swept up in the ensuing mess. Forget transporting oil out of the Middle East. No oil company would risk multi million dollar tankers going to the bottom of the ocean. The Arabic nations would also see us as the prime ally of Israel, and as such would consider us a hostile nation.
The question is, how much control does the US have over Israel to prevent a first strike?
Working in the petrochemical industry, I talk to people from all the nations involved on a regular basis. Even Arabic nations who like us would be forced to face off against us. The diplomatic damage would be long term and far reaching.

do you think it possible that the president of iran would actually welcome an attack by israel?
i suspect he has ambitions beyond iran. he may be trying to position himself as the leader of the entire arab world. an attack on iran by israel, unless a retalitation, would further his agenda provided other arab nations rallied in support of iran.
this is just my opinion and i cannot back this up with any evidence.

One point I heard some time ago:
If Iran does make a bomb it then becomes a nuke target. This means its plants and infrastructure will be targeted in the case of a likely confrontation. Does any country want this ? I read an inteview with the Irani President - talk about a whack job. Here is the link:

On the "plus side" with the advent of smart weaponry the need to nuke Iraq back into submission is virtually eliminated. You can now surgically remove the facility without having to blow up the whole city.
Yes, Israel has a take no crap policy and will very likely use it if it feels threatened.
