I know I usually only post silly stuff. But this is serious.

We don't live in a world where everyone is honest. Many of the nicest people you meet online are pedophiles, perverts, or murderers in the real world. (You don't see login names like "Ax Killer" or "Baby Luster".) The Internet is kind of like a watering hole- it's a great place to be, but the predators are all lined up watching and waiting.

So be careful.

This is a real story pulled off the AP Wire:

Visitor shoots himself after police respond to threat call

BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) -- A Mississippi man who police believe may have been planning to kidnap a teenage girl he met on the Internet fatally shot himself when officers confronted him as he held the girl in her family's apartment, authorities said.

Charles B. Martin III, 43, of Moss Point, Miss., had been on life-support equipment and listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Spokeswomen for the hospital and the state medical examiner's office confirmed his death Saturday.

Police answered a call just before 5 p.m. Thursday from a woman who said a man with a gun was holding her 17-year-old daughter in a back bedroom of the second-floor apartment on Prospect Street.

The mother, two daughters and a 2-year-old grandson had left the apartment before calling police.

Police entering the apartment heard Martin and the girl talking through a closed bedroom door, police spokeswoman JoAnne Fisk said, and Martin's voice grew louder and more agitated.

Officers identified themselves, opened the bedroom door and ordered Martin to drop the revolver he was pointing at police, Fisk said. Because there was no light on in the room, police could not determine the girl's location.

Officers heard a gunshot and initially thought it was fired at them, Fisk said. The girl then ran from the room, yelling "he shot himself in the head," the spokeswoman said. No one else was injured.

"It appears the suspect's intentions were to kidnap the female and potentially cause her great harm," Fisk said.

The names of the girl and her family were not released.

Police had little information about Martin and were attempting to contact his relatives. Fisk said Martin had driven from Mississippi but she did not know when he arrived in Maine.

This is so true.

I'm sure that guy did not declare his creepy intentions while he was talking to that girl.

Also, you can ask people if they're ax murderers or creepy, but they're not going to tell you.

It's pretty easy to forget that there are creeps out there. The bad guys have a tendency to modify their behavior in order to gain acceptance in society. And they use good guys as models. Thanx for the reminder, Mr. X.

The first step is learning to love how the hot cheese can burn the roof of your mouth for the rest of your life.
