Nah. When our son was born, I was in the delivery room, but helping the Mrs. with all that focusing and breathing. She had a lot of interseting names for me that day... If I was at the business end, I'd've been a goner. Not denying it was a great experience, but that part was not retriever-friendly!

Isn't Scott Peterson being charged with the murder of his unborn son?

According to current law they shouldn't. If they do, it'd be a major precedent that would be argued all the way up to the Supreme Court. |
Is the current law you're referring to related to the status of the fetus, or the murder statute?

Status. What copdotcom said.
po-po: PM me info on this law you refer to. I'm unaware of state law, but the federal one is quite clear.

I'm having a difficult time with the choice this mother made. It's saying that she made this decision for cosmetic reasons. I find it terrible that this was her reasoning. She was putting her body and needs first, before her unborn child.
I've had to have 3 c-sections. My first c-section was an emergency one due to a long, drawn out labor where my daughter was starting to show signs of distress. I could tell by the look of my DH/OB that it was urgent and had to be done. That baby was born within minutes and I didn't think twice about the decision that was made. All I wanted was a healthy baby. That I got.
I've had two more c-sections. I'll admit, cosmetically they have scarred my body and I'm not thrilled with it. I did have some work done with the scarring after my last c-section to correct some of this, but I'm not 100% happy. I would have to go in for additional cosmetic surgery to completely fix my lower abdomin. It's not on the top of my priority list. With that, I will say that I'm happy. I don't care how my children got here, I'm just happy that they made it here safe and healthy. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It's one of the only times in my life that something/someone else came first.
This story is sad to read.
Let's hope that there's some kind of good outcome.

Nothing controversial, just my own experience, but before I ever became a parent I don't know if I was capable of what I am now. That being I would give a limb, an organ and yes even my life for one of my children. No hesitation.

I agree with you. Yet the law states that before the child is born, the mother can terminate it's life without even having to give a reason.
With this particular mother, it's a shame (for her) that she didn't decide that the whole thing, start to finish, was inconvenient, messy, and potentially damaging to her physical self a few months earlier, before it became a baby . If she'd made her decision then, the law would have smiled.

LE I do not think a mother could stab herself at 8 months and not be charged.
but in this case, I am not sure how the state defines a fetus, etc so that makes a big difference.
[flame on] those babies were alos babies at conception not at any set age gestation.[/flame off]

I also hope she gets charged. This isn't a woman who paniced at a last second C-section, this is one who shopped hospitals, and repeatedly ignored medical advice.

I would argue the opposite is true, but then this would be locked in less than 5 seconds.

Wow. You'd think one would consider all possible outcomes before becoming pregnant in the first place.
