Pardon me while I vent.
I think I am falling apart. Every week or two it is something new. First it was my right ankle, than it was my left ankle. Finally, the left ankle heals and now my left heel is tender. Dammit! I am 31 years old, not 81! I stretch, ice, heat and massage every chance I get, yet still I get hurt. It is very discouraging. I should buy stock in Advil.
14 weeks to the NYC Marathon, and I can't seem to get on a good roll.

I feel your pain brother. I just took four days off from running until yesterday. Did a slow 3 miles and my foot was a little tingly at the end. Looks like I'm going to have to cut back on the mileage I was building up.
Good thing I've got plenty of cross-training to keep me busy.

M/B that's what you need - some cross training to help you maintain your endurance and strength while reducing some of the pounding your legs and feet are taking.

Welcome to the club. I am 33, and I started falling apart around 31-32. Multiple stress fractures, bursitis, tendonitis, you name it. It sucks. I really want to do another full marathon too, but I don't know if I can.

Permanent bench warmer reporting in too....still struggling with these damn fractures that simply refuse to heal. Haven't run but twice since I was cleared because my left shin just will NOT stop hurting. Finally pulled my head outta my butt this weekend and had a decent workout, but it is NOT THE SAME AS RUNNING!!!!!!! WAHHHHH!!!!
Ditto everyone on the cross training, it is the only thing keeping my stress level at least even and it will help you keep your cardio fitness and some of your leg strength for when you start back again. No more being a running purist who is "too good" to cross train for me.

Thanks Genie,Kristen, Prohemp and PH. I have been resisting cross training, partly out of laziness, partly out of being a running snob. I think I will take my bike down (hanging in the house) and do some peddling this weekend.

Another member of the walking wounded reporting in... heel bursitis.
And this pesky injury decided to make itself at home, raid my fridge, drink all my beer, date my SO, and run up my phone bills. For a while I tried to run away from it, but it kept following me, digging itself in deeper, making smart-a$$ remarks bout how I could run but I couldn't hide.
Finally, I had to stop dead in my tracks and say to it, "if it's a fight you want, it's a fight you're going to get." But it's still sniping at me and eating my food and drinking my beer and alienating my running friends. I'm cross training in order to strengthen myself to fight it better--sometimes I worry it will win, but I still head for the gym and maybe, eventually, with enough working out, I can shake it loose from me.
So, my friends, let's keep each other strong. Injuries have a way of trying to foist themselves on us, sometimes even invite their friends and relatives, but we have what it takes to overcome them!
(If anyone ever comes up with an injury-repellant spray, s/he will be a multi-millionaire, richer than Bill Gates, and deservedly so.)
