I took my 14 y.o. daughter to an indoor rock climbing gym yesterday. (I took the day off and she's on spring break)

Here's the place we went :: http://www.adrenalineclimbing.com/

She wore out after a couple of climbs and I didn't last as long as I thought I could. Running and cycling lots don't translate well to being able to climb well.

I managed to do a 5.8 climb, but I couldn't do a 5.9--just.too.hard.

I'm looking forward to going back again while my daughter thought the trip to the mall afterwards was the highlight of the day. Neutral

Sorry, no pics. I forgot to bring the camera. Sad

I did it a few times about 3 years ago. Great fun! My hubby dropped me. He was belaying (sp?) and was checking out some other chick climbing. I fell and he wasn't ready. Thank goodness they had the crushed up tires on the floor. I believe things like rock climbing help boost self esteem in girls.

Wait...your DH dropped you because he was checkin out some other chick?

If I did that to MW...well lets just say "keelhaul" would be the best I could hope for...

I agree that climbing is great for young girls..AND boys.

Yeah, he was checking out someone else and dropped me. He got a good slappin over his actions.

Climbing is good for boys and girls...didn't mean to leave out the boys.

Did this too for a winter of off season training in DC. Nope cardio does not much good when your using strength. Confused

even after a winter i was only able to do 5.9' ok, and really struggled on a 6.0

Dancer. if i had been you, he'd have slept on the kitchen floor till my arse (or other body parts) stopped hurting. no major injuriy from the fall i gather?

Not for her anyway. Cool

Sounds really cool. I have no upper body strength--so I doubt I would last too long.

My husband and I were thinking about doing this. There is a local place that even has an indoor cave-type thing you can climb around in. Do you have to already know how to climb to do it?

The place I went to was really nice. There were only a small handful of people there, so we got to spend a lot of time talking to the guy that was belaying us. He was super helpful and supportive.

Okay, maybe we'll try going on a weekday. I imagine weekends are packed. Thanks!
