Ya just gotta love the Midwest, man.....this would never happen here...

I got an email today from a doctor at Lilly who is a reference for one of the candidates for my open biologist position, basically saying his letter was on the way, the guy is great, yada yada (which he is, he's our current favorite) .....and a P.S. sending the best wishes of everyone at Lilly to everyone here about the VIOXX mess, and how they went through it back in the 80's with Oraflex. I responded back that things are tense here right now with everyone wanting to see how it all affects us in the long run and that it's made me even happier that I made the choice to leave next year to pursue a career in academia and my PhD.

He responds back....get this....that HE did the same thing as an older, nontraditional student, left a big company and a cushy salary to become, as he put it, a grad student/postdoc slave and he'd be glad to tell me all about his experiences if I was interested. How nice is that??? Mr. Green

meh Happens all the time in the northeast, especially in education & training. I was floored with the amount of people willing to share their stories/experiences and help me with paperwork, shortcuts, etc. Both on the job, and in school.

Hey, that would be cool. He works for a pharma company---what I'm going to be making as a graduate assistant, I could use a rich hubby Wink Wink (KIDDING OF COURSE)

I'm sure if he was from Iowa he would have been just as nice Mr. Green

There is a town in Indiana called Scotsboro or Scotsburg or something like that.....we stayed there at a motel one night and they had a smiley face painted on the bottom of the swimming pool......we drove into town a few blocks off the the freeway and went past clean, little white wood houses with big trees and flowers by the porch.....the downtown was just like that movie with Jimmy Stewart "It's a wonderful life".....

so I think Indiana is pretty darn nice too......

Kristin and I stopped in one of those little Mayberry-esque towns for a potty stop when we drove from Columbus to Iowa a couple years ago. It was really cute.....I forget where it was, somewhere right off the turnpike, ormaybe it was 80, I forget....out in the middle of nowhere. Everyone I have met from IN is really cool. I wish one of their universities had the program I want. Sad

I ran a road race in Lagrange Indiana a couple years back and know what? There were horse apples all over the roads from Amish buggies.

My impression of Indiana? Crappy!

...of course Shelee lives in Indiana, so there is some redeeming value! Surprised

Then again, that peaceful bucolic environment wasn't quite enough to keep Bobby Knigt relaxed:

of course, he's in Texas now and fittin' right in!

I agree with elkid.

People in the Northeast are nice too (once you're north of, say, the 43rd parallel) Wink

Exactly!!! I agree with you about the New Englanders. Everyone I know from up there is great.

....even KT although I think she still hates me--which is YOUR fault Wink
