I can relate. Worked in a state mental institution, a juvie facility, 10 years in law enforcement (most of those in prison), and I am now teaching my favorite unit...Serial Killers. (which is why I am NOT sleeping at 3:25am)
I hate to say it, but if you go into Criminal Law, you'll get used to it.
And people do suck. (and 5 years ago when I worked in a prison, I would have put it much more colorfully. I must be improving)

I work in the segregation unit of a state prison. Most of the time we dont want to know what the inmates are in for , but on a few occasions there is a fine line between the inmates and staff . A guy who has never been in trouble gets in a fight in a bar , there opponent falls and hits his head and dies..now he,s a murderer . I would go on to say after working in this game you really become pretty imune to a lot of bad things .
