The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga -- haven't been there but I heard it's awesome. We went to The Newport Aquarium a few weeks ago. It's in Newport, KY -- just across the river from Cincinnatti. It was really nice.
I agree with Cheryl about Lexington. I always enjoy my rides through there. Wish I had more time to explore it.

Have fun crossing Monteagle!

And Cracker Barrel, you'll be driving straight through Tennessee, the state with the most CB's per capita or something like that... |
DROOOOOOLLLLL....remember the Cracker Barrel in Indiana on the way home from Iowa?? Slurp!!!
Which general route are you taking? That's prolly the best way we could tell what you might want to see. A detour to check out the fall foliage on Skyline Drive is a must, although if you're taking 75 you should go through a pretty part of the Blue Ridge Mountains anyway, yes?? That's the way I used to take to Charlotte. And I can vouch for brie--Charlotte ROCKS!!! I'm sad and Jenny and Dave moved because I lost my excuse to visit.
Hey, wonder how many Riffers you could visit on the way? You KNOW that'd be my goal. Where are you thinking of going??

I'm betting that you consider California "out of the way". sheesh. But, when you get tired of Florida you are more than welcome to visit me in California!!!!
Do they even have Stuckey's on that route anymore?

Ft. Knox, KY - Home of the gold vault. Although, it is just a 5 second stop and take a photo op.
Which Interstates are you taking to get there???

Oh no, you still have an excuse! If there is a racing event you'd like to attend here, you know you ALWAYS have a place to crash and Partay afterwards!!

Thanks for the suggestions!! There are some awesome ideas.
I guess I should have included that we are in a caravan of sorts with a 25 foot (rental) truck with one vehicle being towed and another being driven. So there are some restrictions on mileage and types of roads on which we can travel.
So far the potential route is 35 south (only in Ohio) to 77 South, to 95 South, which takes us into FLA. We're on 77 and 95 for a while but would both enjoy more scenic detours if they are feasible with a moving van.
That's really the only restriction, other than trying to keep the mileage semi-reasonable (the restaurant is paying for moving expenses but part of Larry's compensation is tied to bottom line net income so the goal is to have fun and see parts of America that we haven't visited or would enjoy seeing again (within reason) but also keep costs at a reasonable level...we're not talking scrimping but we're also not talking Hyatts every night.
I can see a major problem with the JD tour. It would either be a ton of fun or a lot of trouble or both. Someone would need bail money.
PH, what's Stone Mountain? It sounds interesting.
I'd love to go via Philly and visit the PA posse, go to South Street, and also eat at the Rose Tatoo again....
or CA or Omaha or really anywhere there are fun people.
However, I don't think even I could concoct a reasonable excuse for those detours as far as travel time and $$ are concerned...plus,we only really have 4 "road" days.
NC or GA and TN are en route. I'm overwhelmed by all of this (not just the travel but trying to see everyone before we go). Also, I'll not be in close proximity to one of my bestest friends ever. That sunk in for real today when we were talking. He's got a show next month (he's an artist) and I've always loved his stuff and enjoy his presentations (his very first show here he painted the bodies of a bunch of models in bikini bottoms, male and female both, in the window of a gallery here; the second we threw roses at everyone...I'm going to miss an opportunity to see him shine and that makes me so sad....
Alright...thanks again for the suggestions. I really do appreciate it, and it's very, very cool to get insights on landmarks/attractions/natural wonders/any point of interest that could have otherwise remained undiscovered.
