...would "higher" mileage be better?

I'll probably end 2004 with a little over 2,000 running miles and 8,000 cycling miles. Overall, I've been pretty happy with my performance at races this year and I'm wondering if I upped my mileage even more, if I'd see even better results. For the sake of argument, let's say 2,500 miles of running and 10,000 miles of cycling for 2005.

I would say it depends on what your goals were for next year. If they are to get faster then I doubt increases in distance are that beneficial.

Worked for me. I'd do "highest milage" if I had the time. Sadly I don't. If you can, go for it.

There is a level at which running/biking farther does not benefit you. It's most likely different for every person. I say go for the higher mileage and see if it works.

Depends on what distances you want to race. If you will be adding more speed work, stick to current levels as this will be an increase in training by itself.

I'd have to say more miles is nice but may not be the answer. Sometimes SMARTER miles are better.

are you doing distance? then maybe more miles. are looking for Speed? then maybe cut back on distance and add intervals/fartleks. Also more miles increases the chances of repettitive stress injuries. try doing some cross trainers as well. it is possible to over develop muscles which can cause some muscle and skeletal issues.

I just looked back at my training log and I rode almost 1,000 miles in July and July was definitely my best month of cycling. dunno
