Just got this in an email from the regional leadership of a national organization I belong to. If this guy intends to drop off the face of the planet, this is certainly a fine time to do it.
What is up with some people? You can't opt out of email contact in this day and age!

From the sounds of it this is an "unpaid, volunteer" position. Perhaps they had a major work crisis or even (gasp) personal reasons for staying off the net for a while.
I agree with the "strangely liberating" aspect of this.
Many years ago I was told by a very senior person that I should devote my time and energy to work, BUT when I got home I should devote my time to family.

The emails pertaining to my volunteer postions are not my problem - they can be handled at my convenience - it's the unexpected phone calls that would prompt me to put out a message like that....but i never would, not without naming a backup or anin case of an emergency contact..

I'm kicking around the idea of ditching internet at home. Not sure how Mrs. PH would handle the online bill-pay stuff or Netflix.
