A student just threatened me by saying "I'll get you back"
we were playing Do-Re-Mi bingo in 6th grade and they wanted to know about the prizes. one of my "special" students eyed the juggling balls on the piano and said he wanted a ball, followed up with "I've already got 2." I said, "That's inappropriate, let's go to the office." He made the threat on the way to the office.
I believe he's been removed for 3 days.

I would have gotten kicked out of school very quickly if they had the rules that they have now back when I was still wet behind the ears.

One of my day care clients and dear friends is a resource (handicapped/learning disabled) teacher at a middle school in the worst neighborhood in town. She has been attacked with SCISSORS , had a student expelled for dealing drugs at school (turns out they were dad's drugs and son was working for him) and been threatened verbally too many times to count. She gets worn down and when she questions why she has this job instead of teaching grade one at her children's school I tell her it's because she does it well. Some other teacher might just put in the hours until retirement or not give a rip about any of these kids, but she cares enough to get stressed and lose sleep over it.
So, keltic, I pass on the same statement to you; keep at it because you ARE making a difference.

you know Keltic, i would hardly know how to respond to the kid when he made the first offensive remark. i think i would have been too : to respond sensibly.
as a volunteer 4th grade teacher, i have had bathroom humor come up on more than one occasion and as a volunteer i never really feel like i have the right to yell at them for their potty talk. i let them know it is not appropriate (ESPECIALLY IN A SUNDAY SCHOOL SETTING) but that's about it. i told them if i hear it again, they have to go stand in the bathroom (it's icky and small and dingy and gross).
how do teachers ever learn to think on their feet? i'd make a complete buffoon out of myself i know it.

This group of 6th graders has been particularly tough. This student came in part way through the year as an Emotional Support student. He's really bee misplaced; he needs a tougher setting like Boot Camp.
I see the 6th grades only in this building on Mondays so I have only 6 more to do.

he really doesn't have any buddies, so the guys who thought it was funny will be glad to be relieved from him for a few days.
