I haven't been on the bike since late September. It's calling to me from the garage rafters. I just want to spin and zip along gobbling up mile after mile until my quads burn and my face is caked with dried sweat.
...still nearly two months to decent riding

I feel your pain brother! I've been on the trainer for 99% of my riding since November.
I did get to ride for about 30 minutes on Tuesday after work but I had to use a headlight. I may sneak out for a few minutes this evening too but other than that, it's been trainer, trainer and more trainer.
Do you really have a recumbent? I'd love to give one of those a try some day.

Here's my summer love...
Getting 'bent has make bicycling sheer joy for me. I can't say enough good things. As much as I absolute love running, my body rebels when I push it beyond the 2-hour mark. With bicycling I can go on and on. And with the 'bent it's nothing but maybe some achin' quads at day's end.

I've ridden the ones at the gym, and jrjo is right, it makes all the difference in the world to your back. I HATE cycling for just that reason.....I may have to look into one of these too. What's the cost range as compared to your standard road bike, is it much different?

Yeah Paul, it's got a different 'feel'. You still use your body as balance similar to an 'upright', but you lose the balancing part your legs do on an upright, so it takes a hundred miles and it then becomes second nature.
Ya know Genie, it was while I pedalling on a recumbent at the the fitness center that the thought struck me last winter. "Why don't I just pedal this way all the time?" Heck, my back, neck, wrists, and butt feel great, forget about being hunched over on wedgie come spring, I'm getting 'bent.
Price-wise it's about double upright pricing. I spent $800 on a mid-range model. Actually, it retails around $1100 but I got it the e-bay way. Since all the manufacturers are still small operations, the prices can't compete with the Huffies and Schwinns of the world. A lot of what is out there is made in the US and I like that myself. My Vision comes from a factory in Seattle. Bottomline though, I put on about 1000 miles last summer and every single one of them left me feeling so good, I could have spent twice what I did and still feel like I struck gold.

A quick glance at my log tells me that I've put on just over 600 'miles' while riding the trainer but only 31 genuine road miles. I wish I wasn't such a wuss about riding in the cold. It's not even really the cold that's the problem, it's the CONSTANT runny nose that kills me.

That's less than I paid for my road bike last year, which had all of 40 miles on it when I sold it this December.....at several hundred UNDER what I paid for it....

patience is a virtue....before you know it you'll be riding again and having a great time. I just want to run in streets not full of slush and ice. Can't wait for Spring!!!

I rode my bike yesterday on the Pinellas Trail. (It's a 47 mile long rails-to-trails paved path through the county.) The thing was packed with bikers, rollerbladers, a couple of runners, and a bunch of Moms pushing strollers. Today, my butt is sore.

We've got a trail like that here. Too bad it isn't close to my house or I'd ride it.

That is a real nice trail. I ran on it back in May, during my brief visit to the Pinellas Park. What a great trail.

Same here no outside riding since late Sept and only started doing real bike training since Jan.
In the off season my goal was to wait till late March before doing outside riding and just getting all my bike gear together has been a new experience with so many options and view on bike set up.
Your time to ride will come.
