PostPosted: 09/27/06 - 16:02    Post subject: I've tried, and failed.
In the brief period I've been the moderator in On Topic, I've tried to keep a even balance with all of the bickering that goes on here. When I contacted John to volunteer as moderator, I thought I'd be able to keep fair control on things. It's not possible.

Despite sending PMs to many people to "tone it down" with language, back off when posts get testy, or not start tongue in cheek threads, many have flatly refused to listen. I have been civil in the manner I've posted and managed matters on this board. I have not been given the same courtesy. There are too may 4th graders disguised as adults on this board.

Finally, there are additional matters that compel me to leave, although they are not specifically relevant to the OT forum. I have PMed several of you about these issues.

I have asked pseud0 to remove me as moderator. I invite those of you who have been most critical of my management here to apply.

Good night, and don't forget to tip your server.

I thought you were awesome.

But then again, I've always had you in high esteem.

You've been a braver soul than most could consider even trying.

G man you done good. When you have lots of people you get lots of divergent views and people who ignore the rules. You did what you could and did it well. In many cases I would not have been so patient.

Just for the record, I did not have a complaint against you. I just didn't see why you locked the post.

I think it was very noble on your part to take this on given that you surely must deal with unreasonable people here and there in your profession. To get more of that when you come here to moderate, well, wow.

I've always been impressed by your tact and ability to keep your cool. You're a class act, to be sure, and one that will be hard to follow.

You should volunteer to moderate this forum within the guideline set forth by the admin. It is not as easy at it may seem

I have moderated another forum for over a year and had much worse posts than what thegman has gotten upset over. I have edited, locked, deleted and had the owners of the board ban one member completely in the time I've moderated that board. I've been flamed and had to lock certain posters out until they calmed down. And I've even issued stern to the board a couple of times. But I've learned to deal with it. It's just a message board. You find after awhile everyone calms back down and things return to what is perceived as "normal".

So I do know what it's like. Thegman has to do what he thinks best. I'm sorry to see him go but that is his choice.

he said it was not personal either. He just could not conform to the new guidelines set up by the new admins.

good for you for moderating, you would likely be very good at it then, you should still try it here under the conditions set forth by the administration

No, because the reason I'm good on my board is I really have no particular interest in the subject of the board so I can look at it from a fairly distant view. There are none of the members of the board I would ever possibly meet nor desire to although most are nice people despite the fact it's a Georgia board.

In this case I do occasionally meet runners from here at different races. We haven't thrown any punches. We already kind of know each other a little bit so none of the topics on this board come up. For me to take a moderator on here I would have to quit posting.
