Dunno. What's a Crimson Tide? |
The nickname Crimson Tide was penned by Hugh Roberts, of the Birmingham Age-Herald, after the 1907 Alabama-Auburn game. In a game that was played in a sea of red mud, Alabama played heavily favored Auburn to a 6-6 tie. After the game, Roberts dubbed Alabama the Crimson Tide.
Or something like that.

The irony is that the NCAA's web server runs Apache.

Molefan.
That strikes fear into the eyes of an opponent.
Team names were chosen for something fierce, something to rally around, something to be proud of.
What azzhat would be proud to play for the ST Louis Lemons?
Most people have pride in their mascots. That's why they are such enduring traditions.
These same azzhats are trying to get rid of the "Chief" in the term "Chief Master Sergeant" of the Air Force.

Looks like Noley can breath easy... (story courtesy of CBC Sports)
| Quote: |
From Tallahassee, Florida, Tuesday - Florida State University sports teams can continue to use the nickname "Seminoles" in post-season play.
The NCAA removed Florida State from a list of U.S. colleges with Native American nicknames that had been restricted from post-season games. The Athletic Association governing body said it recognized the relationship Florida State enjoyed with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, which supports the school's use of its name.
The President of Florida State had threatened to sue the NCAA after its initial ruling, on Aug 5., that use of the word "Seminoles," was "hostile and abusive."
Under the NCAA restrictions, teams with American Indian nicknames would not be able to use them in post-season tournaments.
The NCAA said it would handle reviews from other schools on a case-by-case basis.
The Illinois Fighting Illini, Utah Utes and North Dakota Fighting Sioux are among other prominent school nicknames that remain affected. | Huh?

BTW. Thank f'ing god this is how it came down for FSU.
Those big cry babies!
I never said one thing in a negative way (until now) or was demeaning towards the Seminole Native American tribe. Ever.

I don't think I'd mind the Lutheran Liturgists. I mean, I'm not sure I'd be intimidated by their fierceness but not so much offended either. |
