But it was a dying smoke detector.
It took me 2 hours to find it.....
I'm replacing it tomorrow.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...now, you should know better. If the word gets out about your carefree attitude toward battery replacement, why...there just might be a fireman show up at your door...I hope he brings you a 9V battery.
You don't want the smoke detector speech, do you? Okay, then. Here's what you might try to remember: when you set your clocks forward or back, depending on the season, replace the battery in your smoke detector.
Do it...or I'm gonna tell.

I told him the story... actually he herad the chirp. I replaced the battery but the detector isbad, so it was still chirping.... driving him nuts!

I absolutely hate those things!.....and yes, I know that they are a good thing.....but mine always seem to go out in the middle of the night and the first couple of time, I didn't have a 9v battery.....now I keep a bunch of em in the fridge, just in case......
