on your recommendation a year ago, didn't like the first half, put it down, just picked it back up again and I now love it.

I think you have to be in a certain state of mind, Keltic...For instance if someone's looking for race tips and such, sheehan's not your man. But for some good reflective thoughts and views on running...boo yeah!

Final recap: three doctors, a surgeon, two best friends, and The Paramedic all told me I might be pushing it. But without a trigger, it was very difficult to see the signs of burnout since I was able to maintain a hellish schedule for a long time. Literally I was fine, then I wasn't. Now that I've crashed and burned (starting with that last crazy half) because of overtraining and other stuff, and have been forced to rest, I am going to build back up again to a decent weekly mileage for the marathon, but over several months time instead of a week. All medically approved, all mentally OK'd. Now that I'm travelling more for work and back in school, I will have to take it easy anyways.
Thanks for the input, everyone, both here and in PMs. Your many years of experience are having an effect here!

early in the book he paints an unflattering picture of runners. I saw myself waaaay too much in his words and didn't like that. no it's not a "run better by doing what I do" book. but it is good stuff nonetheless.

1! Take care of yourself. Your body is telling you to back down.

Take care of yourself. ANd no matter how hard it is for you, don't go back at it until you are 100%. You body will thank you for it in the long term, trust me. Good luck!

Too much too soon would be my guess. 25 to 50 miles a week is way too big an increase in a months time. Get back to the 25 mpw, get yourself healthy and then start a gradual increase of 3 to 5 mpw. I don't think alcohol consumption has much to do with it myself. I'm rarely if ever sick (haven't missed a sick day for 10 or so years except for some minor surgery) and I drink 2-3 beers a day during the week and more on the weekend. It's rare (once a year maybe) I allow myself to overdo it to the point of being hungover though.
