Posted: 01/16/05 - 14:15 Post subject: I think I REALLY need a vacation
Away from this island. I never in my life thought I'd gripe about living on an island, but I am SO sick of everyone having their nose in everyone's business. Not to mention that it is impossible to get anything done without it turning into a major ordeal, complete with a great story.
EVERYTHING down here is a hassle, and everyone is full of gossip. I am going to go curl in my hammock and hide under a blanket. Thank you for letting me vent.
(There is a lot going on that I can't really share here, and it's all typical island BS. Mostly people involving themselves in other's business. I feel like I cannot trust anyone here other than my husband. Which is fine, but we work opposite hours and have for a very long time. That should change in a few weeks, but right now I am ready to crack! Help me, please! I am going insane down here!)

Yes. It sounds like you need to get away. Can you take a "mini-break", as Bridget Jones would say?

Any chance to move somewhere else?
What's the likelihood of things getting better?

I never thought I would say yes to ice and snow, but yes, I would LOVE to go. But I am still in the midst of year-end stuff at the new job.
This, too, will pass.I need to keep reminding myself of that.
Thank you ALL for the good thoughts. I really appreciate them.

Kristin,
I know EXACTLY how you feel (minus the wonderful weather!). I grew up in a town with a population of 1200! SA-LUTE!
As a teenager I did anything and everything to find a way out of that one-horse town as fast as I could. I kept moving to bigger and bigger "towns" and "cities" until I ended up here in the DC area. I have absolutely NOTHING to hide (as my friends can attest for...I tell all...) but the constant gossip drove me NUTS!
Even today, when I go back to visit my mom, sister, or brother not much has changed. Only now they (and others) gossip about people I don't know which makes me even more
Come to DC for a visit. You'll love all the stuck-up-snobby folks around here!

When I visit a friend in Opel, all she does is talk about what the people from high school have been doing... who slept with who, who's pregnant, etc. It's terrible. And I really don't care about those people anyway. The really bad thing is, if her mom is there, she will talk to me about the exact same things. It's like she's trying to out-do her daughter with gossip. So sad.

We have nothing to hide, either. I am just sick of having our business "shared" with others who have nothing else to do. Honestly, I am not a gossippy type person. I appreciate the same treatment from others. Obviously, I will not get it here.
