So I was at work mouth-aspirating fruit flies for a bioassay experiment into glass containers when I realized I was inhaling through the wrong tube and the flies were not going into the containers. At the same time while I was aspirating, I felt something at the back of my mouth and realized in horror that 10 flies had gone down into my digestive tract. Ughhhhhh!!!!!!

You should come work with us, we don't have to suck flies or cut up fish heads. We did have that one small problem with our genetic engineering experiments; something about two heads really weren't better than one...?

Sorry, I found it funny!! I've swallowed many more bugs than that on bike rides. Its nice when they are on the larger side and get caught in the back of your throat...

I almost swallowed a deer fly yesterday.
A fellow runner one time inhaled a dragon fly, claims he could feel it buzzing in his lungs until he could get enough lung strength to cough it out. The dragon fly just took off like nothing had happened.

How the HECK did he swallow a dragonfly?? They are so large and agile. He must have had his mouth wide open!

I was NOT using a pipette! It was one of those aspirator thingies with 2 pieces of rubber tubing attached to a black cork stopper. One of holes on the cork leading up to the tubing had a mesh wiring to prevent the flies from getting into my mouth while inhaling it from the petri dish into the container. The other tubing is supposed to act like a vacuum cleaner to suck the flies in. (while inhaling, i created a vacuum in the container) I was supposed to aspirate through that tube connected to the wire mesh hole but apparently I did not by mistake.
