and just heard about the execution that was posted on the web of the American Citizen.
I hope to GOD that we pull our thumbs out of our you know what and take care of business. I don't care if they don't tell us how they do it. I just want to know that they are going to finally do something about it.
If this was already discussed earlier in the day I apologize. I just saw it on the NBC News with Tom Brokaw and I started to fume during dinner.

No, they didn't discuss it here today.
Truly sickening. I did have the distinct, uh, experience to see the full, unedited Daniel Pearl video. This does show a huge differnce between us and them. Besides the fact they won't hesitate to kill their prisoners.
The episodes of our treatment of the Iraqis, wrong as it may be, was brought to light in our country to be evaulated, discussed, and actions taken. You wouldn't've seen this a couple of years ago in Iraq, and you aren't going to see it from whoever is fighting us there now.
We can keep the higher ground by continuing the investigation of the Iraqi prisoners while we hopefully get the green light to kick a--.

Gentlemen, war is hell.
They behead us. We sodomize them. They do to us. We do to them. The people who do the most to the other team wins.
I don't usually weigh in on political topics, so I am prepared to have my ass chewed but frankly, we need to get the hell out and then decide what happens, if anything.
Biblically speaking there will be no peace in that region until the second coming, so why are we even bothering to play with the kids who pull wings of the butterflies?

This ain't Clubhouse, Alia - you aren't going to get your butt chewed up.
Yours is the basic question - why are we there? Like the rationale or not, we went there to get Saddam. But the military, the intelligence community, and the Bush adminstration didn't expect this part to go like it did. It looks like that if we pull out on July 1, as announced, we're going to have the same results when we left Vietnam - a government not ready to, or capable of, standing on its own.
I had thought we could show these countries that our way of life - multi-party representative goverment, a free press, freedom to worship (or not), and a capitalist (for the most part system) - was good, that they would get with the program. But in a lot of Arab countries, especially, we're hated for many of those reasons. Maybe we should just take everyone out of everywhere, let the nations rip each other to shreds, and then maybe try it again. I don't know.

This whole thing makes me sick. What they do to us; what we do to them. I won't get into politics here, other than to say this is why I am anti-war.
This is why we both go to the beach at night, and look at the ocean, and cry. Larry lost a brother in the first Gulf War. Needless to say, we try to avoid watching the news about this too often.

I am still waiting for other countries to condone the act.
As gretriever said. Our mistreatment of prisoners is being dealt with and the parties involved will be punished.

the people in prison were not boy scouts. They were dirtbags. Their treatement WAS over the line. I just wish people would get as worked up when they behead an american citizen installing communication relays to better help the people of the country or when nothing is done when 4 citizens are burned and hung off of a bridge.
persepective people. Punish the like 10 people who were abusing prisoners but execute those who punish and slay our people.

It is time for Bush et al to stop dicking around. If we're going to fight a freakin' war then lets take the sob's out and get it over with. The insurgents are not fighting by the standard rules of engagement by using mosques as hideouts. I understand that harming the holy shrines is a major no-no in these very religious countries but in my opinion the atrocities committed by al-Queda and the other insurgents just opened the door to a big time display of American firepower. Mosques can be rebuilt, decapitated and tortured to death pow's cannot.

were you surprised by the murder?
when I heard it, my first thought was "well, I knew that was coming." I just knew we'd have some retaliation for the stupid actions of our prison guards. NEITHER of those things should have happened, but I'm not surprised by this newest atrocity. The antics of the prison guards just gave them one more reason to commit murder (and somehow justify it.) I'm with robp on this one: if we're going to take action, let's get in there and do it right. otherwise, we need to get out and save as many of our people's lives as we can.

I was watching the news at 0500 today and they had loads of tv news trucks with their lights on. I would leave the area for a few days or tell them all to get lost.
These news people have no smpathy at all.

I'm unsure how to feel about this. I'm upset to be sure, but this is what they do.
We are definately in some trouble over there, but I can't tell what would be worse, leaving them to fend for themselves or staying over there.
For now, I'll just have to have faith that the people in charge know what they are doing, and are doing the best that they can. They certainly know more than I do.
But this is kind of a dark time.
