back when I was in the National Guard...
(inspired by that coloscopy thread)
They had an annual HIV test.
The first year, they said, "You won't get anything in the mail, unless you tested positive."
The second year, they sent everyone a test result, whether they were positive or not. (there were no positives in my company)
You want a talk about a bunch of nervous guys. They were all like, what do you mean?

I didn't say that. They were just all negative.
I'm sure a few were nervous with reason.

South Dakota, buddy. South.
National Guard, buddy. National.
I don't think North Dakota has a Coast Guard, but who knows?

One time when I had a bad flu, I went to the doctor, concerned over swollen lymph nodes. He told me I had the flu, mono, or AIDS. And tested me for all three.
I knew the chances of me having HIV were damned near negative. Still the scariest five days in ever.

When I was on Active duty and later in the Reserves, we had to get HIV tested quite regularly.
You had to get tested before going out of the country. One time we had one guy that had not been tested so I had to scramble to find a quick military testing facility. Fortunately we did and results were negative. I had to call his wife and tell her to tell him he "passed his test". Of course she asked which one and I said it was his HIV test. She just started laughing.

there's a Naval station in either N Dakota or Idaho, i can't remember, but i found it funny. it turns out it's a satelite tracking station for the Navy ships.
I was one of the folks that took all the samples for those HIV tests. If i only had a dollar for everytime i heard one tell me to "make sure it's negative DOC."

The official fumm lenght title for the NY National Guard is
"State of New York, Division of Military and Naval Affairs".
I was talking to a counterpart in Florida and mentioned our full title - He immediately asked : Ya'll have a Navy ?"
