Now, she has her own tool to remove her clipless pedals so that she can take them with her when she goes to the beach to rent a bike,

It's a 5/8" wrench. Don't bother buying a special pedal wrench.

I don't know what she has/does, I just know she can take hers off. Yes, my mom is more mechanically savvy than me. Shut up.

Bike tech tip #23 :: When putting pedals on, turn them toward the front of the bike. When removing them, turn them toward the back.

Bike tech #24

If you F-ed up installing your pedals, take your bike to your nearest LBS, preferably with your feet off the pedals. Razz

Bike tech tip #25 :: Don't cross thread your pedals during installation because you don't know which way to turn them. Pedal thread are (probably) steel and your crank arms are aluminum - see where I'm going with that?

Start with mountain bike shoes. They usually have recessed cleats and so they are easier to walk around in and to learn how to use clipless pedals in for the newbies.

MTB shoes are much easier to walk in when you're not riding.

Also JU, to help phase her in (although she didn't need phasing in) my mom got something like these as her first clipless, they are like a normal platform pedal but with the clipless thing in there. You can use them both ways

That way she could actually pedal with them like a platform if she didn't get a foot clipped in immediately. And, in the beginning when she was nervous, she'd actually leave one foot unclipped and pedal that way.

And yes, they are heavy, but they gave mom peace of mind.

Oh, said that in jest. Someone in a another forum posted something about not being able to get out of his clipless pedals during his commute on his new bike. He had to walk his bike to the LBS in his socks. Turned out he had switched the left with the right pedals when he installed them. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Yeah, I can relate... Embarassed One of my screws came loose on the cleat on my shoe, so after I clipped in I couldn't unclip!! and I have a bad habit of starting and stopping on the same foot (the one that was stuck) so it made for some awkward times. I eventually, in one shoe, one sock, found some nice guys with lots of tools who helped me out.

Do they come with dentures? Shocked

Would you ski without clipping into your skis?

Clipless for the win!

You mean like my feet stay on the pedals when I crash unless I remember to try to get them out? I never understood this help me!

Don't crash, then it's not a problem.

Oh riiiiiight.
