Don't crash, then it's not a problem.

You gotta crash sometime. Might as well do it clipless. You'd learn quickly to snap them off faster next time.

It's just like a ski binding. A special shoe attaches to a special receiver. If you need to get your foot out of the pedal, you just turn your heel outward a bit. It's easy.

Because your feet aren't flopping all over the place like a wounded baby seal.

Okay, sort of like ski bindings but A LOT EASIER to get out of than ski bindings. And you can adjust how tight/how easy it is to get in and out (ie, mine hardly hold me in they are so loose/easy) but yes, you MUST mandatory get clipless. Even my mom has clipless, JU, and she was terrified of having to get a new hip due to them. Now, she has her own tool to remove her clipless pedals so that she can take them with her when she goes to the beach to rent a bike, she can attach her clipless to the rental bike. I'm not even joking.
Why its better: You get power distributed on your whole pedal stroke (so including when you are lifting your leg again, you are pulling/powering the bike) rather than only down strokes and only with your quads. It uses your hammies and relieves your quads some. Makes hills seem flat in comparison to pedalling them with regular pedals, but too I'm a little hamstring dominant...
clipless. clipless. clipless.
PS Mama PF has the Giant OCR1 (maybe 2 now that I'm thinking about it....) and loves it.

It's a 5/8" wrench. Don't bother buying a special pedal wrench.

I don't know what she has/does, I just know she can take hers off. Yes, my mom is more mechanically savvy than me. Shut up.

But why is that better? | I'm with PH on clipless.
With clipless, you can push your feet forwards and backwards while pedaling. These types of pedaling keep you from dropping the hammer, or pedaling in squares. They help you pedal smoother, and thereby make you more efficient, not tiring out your legs as fast.
I find that climbing hills on the saddle is easier than off the saddle when you learn to climb by pushing your foot forward while pedaling.

I picture pedalling in the shape of an egg, but well said.
note: her UBB was messed, not mine...
