The archery set is a good idea if you've got a place for him to shoot. It would help to have an experienced shooter help him get set up - if you have a local archery shop that is the best place to do it.

I loved model rockets as a kid. Lost more than few, but hey, that was the fun of it!
Loved remote control stuff too. Not the cheapy stuff, the good ones that really could GO, with some real range to them.
