Posted: 01/22/05 - 20:47 Post subject: I need some good suggestions
I'm trying to decide on some really cool way to celebrate my 40th BD this year. I had originally planned on running a marathon but there's no way on earth I will be in marathon shape come the end of March and I don't want to wait til the end of the year and call that my celebration. I'm kinda weird like that. I'd really have to kick my butt to train for it anyway. Maybe next year.
In the meantime, I just can't decide what might be a cool thing to do. I thought about a Riff Raffer road trip or something else involving travel, because I want it to be memorable. I really don't want just a "woo hoo look who's 40" party like I had when I turned 30. Especially since only some of my close friends are local and the rest of them wouldn't be able to come anyway. Any creative ideas, peeps?

G-girl...
Do something on your "Things to do before I die" list. Skydive, scuba, Paris for a weekend, perhaps?
Whatever you do, you always take the party with you!! You'll have a blast-diddly-ast no matter what!!
Take care, Janice

Genie, for starters at 40 your still only a pup.
How about getting a bunch of your friends together, pick out a mile/kilometer circuit and run 40 mile/kilometer. (It could be 40 laps of whatever distance)
None of the group including yourself have to run the whole distance, by running circuits everyone has the option of dropping out for a lap or two or four.
Only rules are the run must be continious and "Birthday Girl" must run the first and last lap together with all of the runners

On March 21 I'll be aging up too. 40. Yikes.
I am planning a 40/40/40. 40x100 on 1:45. 40 miles on the bike and then 40k run. I'd like to do 40 mile run, but 25 miles will be tough enough.

Do a Half Marathon. Still a challenge but will not be as difficult to achieve as a full one.
Failing that - Something totally stupid and banal is in order.

Nice to see you aren't waiting. Setting it up five years* ahead of time gets all the little details taken care of.
* - I'm not buying this "turning 40 this year" stuff.

I'm thinking Road Trip myself! Come for the weekend, we'll drop the kids off at Dad's and party in Indy. I could get us a suite at the Westin for cheap!

You are turning 40 . I would have NEVER thought that.
I agree with Brie. Take a road trip. We'll show you how we party in Indiana. Cow tipping. Shooting beer cans with a shot gun. Riding around in the back of a pickup. While going down the highway, throwing stuff out of the pickup to see it bounce and disintegrate on the road.
Just kidding. I don't do that. Unless you're into that sort of thing. In which case, I got a truck. I'm just kidding. But seriously, I've got one.
