My bike does not want to go into a particular gear (the lowest one). Even when I get off the bike and manually move the chain, it just flops back to the next gear when I start pedaling. I know it needs a tune-up, but is this somehing I can fix myself? If so, how?

Sounds like your derailers need some adjustments. You can do it yourself -- just be patient with it. And it does help if you have a bike stand.

Here's a link for you. And yes, the guy's a total bike nut.

I've got a really good book at home, but I don't know the name off the top of my head. I'll find it and send it to you.

That looks like a great article! I'm printing it and taking it home! Thanks!
