Posted: 01/29/04 - 22:57 Post subject: I miss running so...
If some of you might remember I have struggled with some lung problems with my "running career" Diagnosed with asthma and 6 bouts of bronchitis since September.
True to form, 2 days after the RNRAZ 1/2 marathon I started to become sick again. Antibiotic therapy didn't help much and after a trip to the Urgent care and another to the ER a week later it appears I have bigger problems. I finally put my foot down and made my primary care dr refer me to a pulmonologist. He seemed very concerned with my family history and my history of smoking. Gave me some different drugs and an appointment in a week and an appointment for a CT scan.
CT showed something in my left lung, could be a pneumonia that refuses to go away or something is causing the pneumonia to form. Fungus? Bacteria? Legionella? mycoplasma? mass of some sort? cancer?
My lower right lung has atelectasis. Basically the alveoli have collapsed. My lower right lung is not working. Again could be caused by a plug of mucous, or a mass. I go in for a brocoscopy in a week or so, they'll let me know when they get it scheduled. With the bronc I will have biopsies done and some cytology done as well.
I'm scared. I am 36 as of 1/20, I have an almost 4 year old son. I am an xray tech so I know enough to freak me out and have not enough information to calm me down. I don't want to freak ou the hubby as he isn't very good at these things and can't tell my mom as she has seen her mother die of lung cancer and her younger sister has it for the second time and her son, my brother is dieing from liver failure. I have no one to turn to with this.
If you are still reading, thank you for allowing me to vent.

I'm sorry to hear about all this Christa. I know when we met a little over a week ago you were in terrible shape and I feel bad that you are not any better. It also must be hard not knowing. Just take things day by day and let's hope that you can get put back on the right track with a good diagnosis.
You do have a lot on your plate going on with your family and it must be hard not being able to reach out to them.
Try to keep yourself up and keep us posted.
I'm sorry about this, I really am.

Christa,
so sorry you're going thru all this.
hoping you're back on the road to good health in a very short time...maybe you just need the right meds and it took a lung specialist to get you there...
i'll keep you in my prayers.
