Posted: 09/20/02 - 09:37 Post subject: I may have found a running partner.
I went up the the Y last night to swim and one of the guys that works there stopped me and asked if I wasn't the guy that he sees out running on Street X every morning.
I told him that was me and we went back and forth for a little bit on how far I run and things like that. He asked me if I ever ran with anyone and I told him no because it's hard to find people that want to run at 5:30 AM. He asked me if he could tag along in about a month when he got back up to speed.
I told him I'd really like to have some companym, which I would. Running every day by myself gets somewhat boring.
I stopped and talked to him again on my way back out and questioned him about pace and he said he's hoping to get back to 5 miles at 7:00/mi fairly soon. Dang young kids!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to having someone to run with.*
*And I'll do a better job of recruiting than joel!

I've never found a running partner that lives near me, other than my husband (but he is too fast for me).
I run with RDX coack from Kick sometimes, but he is also too fast for me. I run with him when he needs a recovery run that is slow, and it is a normal pace for me. He does help me improve my times, though.
I run with Dave every now and then when we both just need a three miler. He pushed me too hard and i end up tired before mile 2.
Still looking for someone around here to run 8 or 9 minute miles and likes to run in early evening.

good for you ph!
I would love to have someone to run with.
There is another guy in town who has done a few marathons. I ran with him a few times, once he heard about my races times he quit running with me. I guess I intimidated him, but I surely didn't mean to! I'm not that fast, a definate mid-packer if there ever was one.
He told me this summer that if I ever slow down, to give him a call. What does that mean? He's a really nice guy, though.
Anyway, so I do all my runs alone. Tempos, long, pace, all of 'em.
There are also a couple of ladies who run in town, but they won't even come near me when I'm running, they seem to think I'm some sort of Running God or something. I know they go to races, I know they never see me win an award. I know that they see my times are right in the middle of the pack. One asked me my pace once, and when I told her @ 8 mins per mile, she flipped out!
Congrats to you PH, hopefully this will work out for you.

I'm really excited about this. If this guy works out and will stick with it, I'm sure he'll help me bring my times down. He's got to be in his early 20's.

What? Like you're so old? Do you think you're gonna need a doctor's permission?

Early 20's is 33% younger than I am. No, I don't think I'm old by any means, I just think he's younger.

Sounds like fun, PH! I used to do most of my running alone, for the opposite reason....I am just too slow to run with anyone I know. I did finally find one guy in my tri club who is about the same speed so when he has to run long he calls me. He's really a cyclist and HATES running so he won't train for longer races without a partner. But he's really competitive and sometimes gets on my nerves. My roomie just started back running so he runs with me now and then, but he's not consistent because he's only doing it to build endurance for karate, and doesn't like to go more than 6 miles for his long run. On the shorter distances he's a little faster than me. There's one other Posse member (not anyone here yet) who is a little slower than I am, we ran a 10K together in March, that was fun......and of course Jen is nice enough to put up with running with me when I am down in NC visiting..... Oh, and Kristin and I run together when I go out there to visit too! My goal is to get fast enough to run with the rest of the Posse so we can start doing group runs again. I hate making my friends run slow just to run with me.

coolio, PH! I haven't ran again with my philly partner...it just doesn't seem right, being a mafia member and all ya know..
Why did he want to wait a month? did I miss something? Is he doing like an extensive background check on your first?

I think he thinks that I'm faster than I really am. Before I knew who he was, I was running on a treadmill at the Y and he walked by and I asked him if the TM would go down to 5 minute miles.
He said he wants to wait a month so he can get back up to running a decent distance at a decent pace.
