Posted: 07/04/06 - 12:04 Post subject: I made it! (and my head hasn't exploded)
Eight straight work days, the last three being ten-hour shifts at the popo.
I have a really, really good FTO (training officer), but nonetheless, it's been three days of:
"What street are we on? What street did we just pass? What's our direction of travel? Who was the last unit on the air? What type of call are they on?
Would you tow this vehicle? Under what authority? What type of vehicle breakin constitutes a burglary vs. a theft?"
etc. etc. etc.
And throw into the mix:
Being introducd to a zillion people (and trying to remember rank/title)
10- and 11- codes (for radio traffic)
Penal codes
Vehicle codes
Municipal codes
Chain of command
But.
Sunday, we handled a report of a guy who had a 16' fishing boat & trailer stolen from his yard. As we were getting ready to leave, we got a report that the Sheriff's office had stopped a suspicious person with a boat motor in his truck, so we went back to get a better description of the motor.
By the end of the shift, he at least had the motor back, and they were trying to track the boat down (the paperwork was a PITA, BTW).
Sometimes, you get to do some good.
