finding out that nothing I've taught in the past 4 years is sticking with these kids, and I mean the very basics! on top of that, they aren't concerned that they haven't learned it. AND, I've just been called a vulgar name by an emotionally disturbed kid.
so if I'm not making a difference, not teaching anything to anyone, and being totally disrespected......maybe I should look somewhere else....

as if Junior High kids will give her any more attention than the ele kids???

Wow, there must be something in the air around jobs lately.....
This stinks, keltic, I'm sorry things are going so badly for you. Would a position in another school make any difference, do you think? What else would you think about doing?

I know this sounds trite--and I don't mean it to--but sometimes as important what you're teaching is, it's not as important as how you've taught these students.
You don't know what kind of seeds you may have planted. There could be a quiet little girl sitting in the fourth row who knew nothing about music until you opened that world for her--and she's prolly looking forward to being in band or taking up lessons of some sort.
And for those students who may not seem to have a "seed" planted--you provided them a style of teaching that they may not get elsewhere. you prolly taught them with kindness and gentleness with a bunch of steel backbone thrown in (so many teachers think that yelling/being ugly is being in control of the class) You've provided them with a good role model--and that it's cool for guys to teach.
There are teachers in my life who I don't honestly remember what they taught me (until the need arises and I'm surprised how much I remember) but I remember how well they treated me and how accepted I felt in their class.
I say thanks on behalf of all your parents who don't ever tell you.

I explored that a few years ago, as I was looking for the teaching gig too. Usually requires a big move, but a good match is important and hard to make. I just sent an email to Pitt for info on one of their degree programs. Oh great, just what I need, another degree!
