It took me a while to appreciate it, but people really are nice once they get to know you. And since I'm local, and going to be here a while, the owners of the loft let me order a kayak now, and not pay for it until after the wedding. In payments, with no interest! AND even better, they gave me their wholesale rate so I ended up with a $500 kayak for $193.
Also, I'm starting to like the fact that everyone knows everyone else to a point, because that means that they look out for you. Someone sees something suspicious, they point it out right away.
