Posted: 09/24/04 - 09:44 Post subject: I'm so quitting!
I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and I am quitting the sticks. I started taking Zyban again, just today, and will quit the sticks on October 1. Worked for me the first time I quit so long ago, I know it will work again, because I don't want to be a smoker. Particularly since the kids only have one decent parent. Gotta be healthy.
Only little problem is I only have 8 days worth of meds. I have to get to a doctor soon. Maybe my old doc can call a scrip in for me. I think she can. I'll call her this afternoon, after class.
I'm telling you because it's all about accountability. Oh, and support.
Goal one: quit smoking.
Goal two: get out and run, but probably walk at first since it's been so long. Target date for that is tonite.
Wish me luck!!!

We'll hold you accountable, and we'll be tough about it too.

Absolutely, Good Luck Brie!!!!
I know you can do it! I've been smoke-free since Feb 7th, 2003, after going through a pack a day. I started running a few weeks after and having been going strong ever since.
I'm here for you if you need me. I know what it's like!

Thanks! I've done it before, I know I can do it again. I cannot keep using stress as a crutch. We all have stress, we don't all smoke.
I'm just gonna do it and keep up the exercise so I don't whale out on ya's.
Thanks again!!!

I smoked a little in college, but not cigarettes (no people - cigars. OK, that, too.), but never enough to make it a habit. So I can't relate in that way. But I certainly wish you all the success in the world. Just agreeing with everyone that you can beat this thing, and you can count on any support you need from us.
P.S. - Pies will not be considered as a bribe/incentive. If the delivery thing can be worked out, you get those anyway.

Brie,
This helped me out when I quit...
Go get a clean, white t-shirt (or something white). Light a stick and take big, long draw. A nice big one. Keep it in, and hold up your t-shirt to your mouth. Pucker your lips, and exhale the entire drag through the t-shirt.
Gasp in awe of the brown stain.
Hang that thing up as a reminder of what your lungs go through on every puff.
You can do it.
Quiting. Its not just for quiters.

Or just run a hose over it instead
OK, OK. Enough already. I get it....

Although, once I quit, not sure I should be eating pies! Nah, I'll run them off.
