Monday I'm determined to brave withdrawl and headaches and unusually long bouts of crabbiness to improve to improve the quality of my beverages... no more Diet Coke!! *insert suspense/horror movie climax moment music here*
Anyhow, I'm scared and don't know what I'll drink, besides trying Gatorade and stocking up on Crystal Light.

I wouldn't try to go cold turkey if I were you unless a Dr. has told you to cut it out completely for health reasons. Just ease out of it like you eased into it.

So since I'm up to 12-14 cans/day I should do, what, 2 less a day or something?
I've been warned by the doc that I will get headaches and be unbearable to live with; fortunately M's gone for 2 weeks and the girls already know I'm crazy!

Water. Start drinking water. The more you drink it, the more you'll be able to 'stand' it.
And yes, cutting out 1 to 2 cans per day would be a good idea.

12-14 can a day!!
I was drinking 7-8 cans of diet dew a day and decided to cut back.
Got down to 2 a day and starting mixing in caffeine free. Went completely caffeine free for about 2 weeks. The headaches weren't bad but I felt bad tired and pukey. So now I let myself have 1 with caffeine a day. Of course it's the first one!!

Arrrrrghhh...been there done that! Don't go cold turkey, weaning is much better and will lessen the side effects. Definitely do what Fla suggested and up your water intake, squeeze some lemon or lime into it if you get bored with the (non) taste of plain water. They do make caffeine free DC, but if you're trying to get rid of the Nutra Sweet as well, then you may want to skip that. Flavored seltzers are good too, they're subtle but it's fizzy and non caloric so it's kinda like drinking soda and it's more filling because of the carbonation. I also mix them half and half with fruit juices sometimes so you aren't getting quite as much sugar as straight juice but it's flavor and some vitamins.
Got a juicer? There are some great combos for fresh juices, which will only contain whatever sugars are in the fruits/veggies themselves and they are yum!! I like carrot/apple or carrot/orange the best, or you can make your own version of V-8 without all the sodium. Throw in a little Tabasco and YUM!

Well, allright, look: day one of caffeine cut-back didn't go so well. I'm not pointing any fingers here, but I believe I may be the culprit.
I'm just going to have to kick my ass and really get serious tomorrow.
Really.
Serious.

Okay, today (Wed.) will be third down and long. I no longer have a super great attitude about this, but as I would tell Cordell Stewart if he were here right now, attitude is everything, so I will beginagain.

...and make sure that it's not Dr. Pepper you're talking to!!! Ha! Get it! Okay, back to the subject at hand...
I always try to quit my coffee but it's gotten the best of so I succumb to it every morning {*sigh*}
but if it's the caffeine that makin you cranky/headachey and playing around with your moods, then you just gots to drop it, laur!
Might I suggest some seltzer water? If you need flavor you can drop in some lime juice or grenadine or something...that's what works for me.
but you gotta want it! And if you really don't, then you will fail and fail until it finally hits you.
Good luck!

I am not doing too badly... down in the last 4 days to about 6 cans, which I feel is a phenomenal feat.
I have started drinking water with lemon juice squeezed into it and 1 pack of Sweet-N-Low. I've also tried a few new flavors of Crystal Light, but mostly drinking Republic of Tea's Cherry Almond with Sweet-N-Low and lots of half-n-half.
