Posted: 01/29/04 - 12:49 Post subject: I'm having bizarre body image issues
Long story short, I used to be a size 14, now I'm a 9 on my way to a 7.
However.....
Clothes shopping is a nightmare. I have to take hubby with me because I still walk past fashionable stuff because I think I won't fit into it. I am notorious for buying things without trying them on and keep coming home with size 12 everything that I either have to return or take in because I'm swimming in it.
I think I still think of myself as an overweight person, which troubles me because I have good self esteem and I thought I had a reasonable grasp on reality. Is this a warning sign of some sort? Or will it just take time for me to adjust to the new me?

Vampires in your house? Look in a mirror once in a while, like, before you go shopping.

I think it is just an adjustment period. Make a commitment to try stuff on for awhile before you take it home until you get adjusted to the new you.

I'm a 10-12 who is on a plateau right now, dammit. But..sometimes when i look in the mirror I see the fat still there, like a transparency overlay.
I've gained about 10 back due to my distance running and lack of sensible eating habits over the last six months...that and will do it to ya.
But...I need to celebrate the fact that I'm not 215 anymore. I lose sight of that sometimes when all I see is the 20 lbs I have left to lose.

I'm not fat (ok, my thighs are huge!), but I still see me that way. Before I got pregnant with Libby, I was a size 13. By 3 months after she was born, I was a size 6. Too thin, but I remember thinking even then that I wasn't thin. I look at pictures of me from that era, and think "Wow!! I was sick thin!"
Even though I just went shopping for new clothes, am now in a size 8, I still feel chubby. I think I always will. I'm glad I tried on the clothes though, because I thought that I'd be a 10, not 8. I hate to go shopping as it is, return trips for clothes that fit suck!
So, try on clothes. Always. And try to focus less on the size, but how you look in what you are wearing. Sizes vary by designer anyway. Just keep doing what you're doing, and realize that as long as you look good, it is all good.
I'll bet you look FABULOUS!!
