I quit my job today. I should've quit a long time ago.

So... any suggestions on part time jobs?

Given your customer service history (i.e. used to putting up with poo) have you considered waiting tables until you find a position? Find a place that serves booze -- tips are better.

Any jobs available to help with hurricane cleanup?

How's the shingles?

Did the out-of-cable subscribers drive you insane after the 'cane? I've had some frickin' dumbarses ("I've spent $50.00 already tonight calling 411 to get in touch with Charter Communications -- their phone stays busy.") I gave the dude the 800 number verbally, but he couldn't understand that 411 doesn't move him ahead in a call queue, or anything. He just wasted a bunch of money trying to get a NUMBER HE ALREADY HAD. I spoke with him twice and our local supervisor talked to him at least four times -- I couldn't imagine how many times he must've called to get us that many times out a pool of a few hundred operators. Even after the explanation, he kept it up. Thanks for the cash, foo'.

Utility customers who were not in the directly affected areas came friggin' unglued when they couldn't get a call through -- erm, "Hello?! They have no PHONE lines and/or their call center was evacuated!!!! Plus, there are thousands of others in your situation!!!"

You might try America's Job Bank. Our local unemployment office, erm, I mean, Career Center is tied in with it. I can get the job reference number from the site and get the employer info and set up interviews at the office. Of course, you have to sort through all the requests for poultry eviscerators and OTR drivers.

I waited tables all of 2 weeks before I quit. I'd like to avoid anything food service, with the possible exception of pizza delivery.

Not here. There's no damage at all.

Yes, that was part of it. We're still taking calls from Frances, and possibly a few since Charley. The cable companies in Florida are terrible to start with and they can't keep up at all.

A larger part would be taking orders. It's depressing how gullible and stupid these people are. They don't listen to what you tell them. Even though you explain that they will be charged automatically in 30 days, they think it's free. They sign up, thinking it's free (because they weren't listiening) and then end up getting charged 90 bucks for something they didn't really want. It's their fault, but I still feel like I'm screwing people by doing it.

And the way the business was run was the largest part of why I quit. A very negative environment and clueless management. No regrets.

Try temp agencies. They know that you'll be looking for a better job and you'll get experience (maybe not the most thrilling experience, but experience none the less) with a lot of different people and types of work environment. Good luck to you!

I would think LSU would have a board with postings for part-time jobs for students, both on and off-campus.

Yes, and I will try for this either next spring or summer, but I have to pay bills until then, unfortunately.
