I like to tell people "I'm may be dedicated - but I'm not nuts".

The Weather channel says it will be -10 tomorrow (Sat AM) with a wind chill approaching about -25. I'm also in the throes of a slight cold that has settled in my nose.

Therefore, I will forego the pleasure of running outside in cold weather and just go to the gym tomorrow AM . I'll work out on the stepper for about 75 minutes, do some weights and pump it up.

Your opinions ? Am I wussing out ? or just being discreet ?

I hardly ever run outside below 35 F - my frickin' asthma makes it very difficult to breathe in the cold when running. I think even jrjo would excuse you on the -10 F running, I really don't think that is too good for you.

That's no wuss in my book. It gets cold out there! If your gym has an indoor track (i just discovered the track at Ballys), you might want to make use of that. Granted, 11 laps to a mile (in my case) might get a little repetitive, but it's nice running in shorts in january.

Not a wuss. If its less than 30o I am riding the trainer. I had no problems running in the sub zero weather, but riding a bike is way different

I'd wuss out too. I won't run out side if it's +10°F.

Inside track I run on is 12.5 laps to a mile. Running in shorts and a tshirt plus being able to breathe makes up for the boredom.

who isn't a wuss this year?????? To my horror.....even jrjo has been indoors all week!!!! What's up?
I think the older I get....the less tolerant I am of cold weather. I don't think it's the climate that you are used to. The first winter that I moved from TX to WI....I only used the treadmill when I had to (dad not home to watch the kids). The second year, only on the treadmill is I feared for my safety....(blizzard conditions). Third year.....all of January. This year.....sheeeeeeeet.....I've bee indoors since late Nov.....I go outside only with a group and I haven't met them since the first week Dec....running at 5:30 am in January is crazy. They think I'm crazy to do long runs on a treadmill.

Seriously though.. it is all about dressing properly.
I usually wuss out on below zero myself, but do make sure to get a handful of them in each winter to keep it reals. Surprised ..besides, I enjoy putting up the -10 degree post and getting a reply from PH to say I'm nuts.

I just got a pair of long johns, so maybe a couple of shorter outdoor runs will be in my future. We're supposed to get another big freeze next week, though.

-10?!?! Are you kidding me? Human beings should not live in such enviroments. It drops below 32 here and everybody locks their doors. Gimme 115 degrees with 95% humidity ANYDAY. I can deal with that.

I think it is an excellent idea for you to be indoors. You will probably accomplish a whole lot more and enjoy your activities.

Plus, if your gym is anything like mine was, there are always lots of interesting people to look/not look at.

Maybe a very short run in the cold another day, but for long training, definitely indoors.

Plus, you're probably cutting down risk factors--falling on ice, exacerbating your cold, frostbite, etc.
