I ran my first mile today having only to walk a few steps (11:52). Did 2 miles total (26:04). My normal routine is to jog/walk the 2 miles at a 4:1 minute ratio but today I felt great. No pain in the knees and no gasping for oxygen. In just a few weeks I've gone from a painful 100 yards at a time to being able to sit upright after a run. Not to mention having lost a little over 15 pounds (only 35 more to go).
I set out earlier in the truck and marked the 1/2 mile, 1 mile and 1 1/2 mile turn around points so I can see if I'm ready for the 5K next month. I decided after completing the first mile that I didn't want to push it the full 3. But all things considered it was a milestone for me. I felt an exhilaration I haven't had since my track days in high school.
Looks like I'm on target to be ready for my 1st race.

Nice Job,
It sounds like you have a good plan leading up to your first race. Keep it up and you will be cruising through that 5k like it is nothing.

I appreciate all y'alls support. I know a 12 minute mile is not a blistering pace but I have to crawl before I can walk. I'm sure I'll be doing mile upon mile soon and at a much quicker pace.
This place is my daily dose of mental energy. It makes me hit the road with confidence and go to the gym on my off days.
Thanks again guys.
