note to self: don't ever leave this hallway again.

Can anyone out there tell me what it's like to work in a place where the employees are upbeat? I heard so many teachers going about their lessons with the most disinterested, defensive, offensive, sarcastic, belittling, or aloof attitudes that it made me want to run away from this place and never come back. How does it make those kids feel?

I know what you mean. Although we have some pretty darn good teachers here, some of their attitudes stink.

I had a discussion with our ES Principal yesterday, and she was worrying about finding my replacement. Told me how accomodating I was to these teachers, and that the new person might not be.

She told me how I knew how to handle working with this group of teachers, to which I replied, "Just do whatever they want."

She laughed. She's a good boss.

Most of the guys in my dept. are pretty upbeat despite the daily bs around here. Everybody's sense of humor is what keeps this place going.

Isn't your principal in charge of hiring, ergo responsible for bringing these losers in in the first place? Or have they been there longer than she has?

You can tell the quality of a school around here by its principal. And boy, what a difference a good one makes.

our principal does not get to "hire" anyone. we have administrators and a school board. too many teachers are here because they had a "political" in with the school board.

well being in a medical setting no humor is allowed. not considered good bedside manner.

I knew it was wrong for my Dr to tell me that!

In my utopia, all the teachers are happy and wonderful. Of course, I never leave my hallway.

I was really shocked the other day when I went to sign my son into school and the secretary was rude to me.

I had never met her before in my life--she had no call to be rude, as all I wanted to do was sign my son in to school. I couldn't believe how rude she was. I think it is time for some of these teachers/employees to go when they sound that dissatisfied with their jobs.

um, just a guess but most likely sarcastic, belittled, aloof, offensive, defensive and, most of all, disinterested. Sad

Not to stir the pot, but homeschooling is booming. And I've got to believe a large part of it comes from parents seeing "the many disinterested, defensive, offensive, sarcastic, belittling, or aloof" teachers and how they do their job and treat the kids.

IMHO, public schools are shooting themselves in the foot.

any other day I think I'd go after you on that..... you're probably right on today. I have a great stake in public education and very often I am offended by the reasons "some" people choose to homeschool. On the other hand, there are valid reason to do so, and many are doing it successfully. If I could spend all day with my kids and do a good job teaching them, I'd probably go for it too.

Well, I don't work in a school, but everyone around here is pretty upbeat.
It's a nice change from corporate America.

(Then again, why wouldn't they be. They get to run around barefoot all day in shorts and there's a big yellow dog to pet. Also, the owners are very nice and bring in banana bread for breakfast!)
